A Parent’s Protection began with firsthand experience trying to navigate child welfare and family court — and discovering how difficult it can be to simply find the rules, policies, procedures, records, deadlines and appeal rights that matter.
It started with one family trying to understand what was happening.
When a family becomes involved with Child Protective Services, family court, custody proceedings or another part of the child-welfare system, the information they need is rarely located in one place.
The law may be in one database. Court rules may be somewhere else. Agency policies may be buried inside manuals. Appeal procedures may appear on another government website. Court forms, records procedures, deadlines and parent resources can all be scattered across completely different systems.
APP grew out of years of having to locate, compare, organize and understand those materials firsthand.
Eventually the bigger problem became impossible to ignore: this was not information that only one parent needed.
APP exists to make official legal information, child-welfare policy, court procedures and practical case tools easier for parents to locate, organize and understand.
Put the information in one place.
A Parent’s Protection is being built as a nationwide parent-information and case-research platform covering all 50 states.
APP brings together state-specific statutes, court information, child-welfare agency policies, CPS investigation procedures, appeal information, records resources, accountability resources and practical tools for organizing a case.
Whenever possible, APP points parents back to the official government, court or agency source so they can review the underlying material themselves.
The core APP resource will always be free.
APP’s core legal-information, child-welfare research and parent-resource features are intended to remain available without charging parents for access.
There will not be a situation where a parent reaches an important rights, policy or legal-information page and is told they must pay before they can read it.
Free for parents does not mean free to operate.
Keeping APP available requires ongoing infrastructure, maintenance, development and source verification. An Android version also adds development and distribution costs.
